Minutes of last meeting – partially read – Beverly suggested that since it was already emailed, if no errors were found it should be accepted as emailed. No errors reported. Motion to accept Tom Howard, second Tom Theall – approved.
Chairman Cunningham presented information to update the committee:
about the state GOP: Jack Kimball resigned prior to the vote at the state executive committee meeting, Wayne McDonald is the chairman until a new chairman is elected at the next meeting, the state GOP financial situation is not as bad as the impression given previously, the locks on the GOP building in Concord have been changed, GOP won the most recent special election, there is another special election on the 20th and help with calls or money was requested.
that Harry Gale had the Memorandum of Understanding drawn up for Bill Ruger. We still do not have a lease but Bill Ruger has agreed to us having the office through 12/31/12 and he will have a lease for us soon. Also, the electric bill is to be the SCGOP's responsibility – the account is to be in our name and the current bills were handed to the treasurer. (Roughly $30/month – most of that being taxes and fees.)
Steve suggested the it be called the 'Lincoln Dinner' instead of the 'Lincoln Day Dinner' since we don't have it on Lincoln Day. There was no formal motion on this but there seemed to be a general agreement in the room. Previously an award – the James E Lantz Community Service Award – was given. Steve would like to have us give an award at the dinner this year also. There was discussion about the name of the award. Beverly is to speak to Jim Lantz and find out if he is okay with us continuing to use his name publicly and permanently for the award and report back to Steve soon.
Steve said he would be working with Ernie Bridge on the Recruiting Committee. They need to know about the redistricting. Spec said he believes it is waiting for the city ward boundaries to be set. Beverly took the opportunity to introduce Brian Rossiter of Newport who has approached her about running in the next election. There was discussion about funding candidates and time requirements when elected.
SCGOP will schedule a special meeting for campaign workers of the various presidential candidates to speak with us and answer questions.
A local charity has requested $1000 from the committee. Motion to deny the request by Tom Howard, second Beverly Rodeschin – accepted (no donation to be made).
The possibility of having a special meeting in Plainfield as previously requested by Margaret Drye was discussed. Laura Ward was “volunteered” to organize it by Margaret (in absentia).
David Roark gave information about obtaining free tickets (by lottery) to the presidential debate to be held at Dartmouth on October 11th at 8PM. The debate will be carried on Bloomberg TV, WBIN in Derry and live streamed by the Washington Post.
The staffers present for presidential candidates briefly addressed the committee about their respective candidates and took questions.
Next meeting is Saturday October 15th at headquarters. D. J. Bettencourt, Republican Leader of the NH House, will be present and address us at the meeting.
Motion to adjourn made by Marie Lozito, seconded Tom Howard – approved.
Meeting adjourned @10:45
