Sullivan Co. Republican committee meeting minutes of 04/18/2009

Chairman Harry Gale opens the Meeting and welcomes all. ( Attendance is a little less due to several helping out with the N.H. Senate Dist. # 3 election that is on Tuesday).
Visitors comments-
Omer Ahern - a leader with the Pemi - Baker Valley Republican Committee. ( He grew up in Unity and was a previous Sullivan County Commissioner and Selectman of Charlestown). He introduces Andrew Hemingway.
Andrew Hemingway - a possible candidate for our Congressional district. He is from New Hampton. He has served on the New Hampton Budget Committee and is active with the Pemi - Baker Valley republicans. He rums his own computer company. He sees the importance of the future for his children and the next generation. He is testing the waters.

Secretary's report given by Dave Roark - A motion is made by Beverly Rodeshin to accept the secretary's report and second by Rob Kasper.
Treasurer's report update by Dave Roark for Chris Vinci- Motion by Steve Cunningham and second by Ernie Bridge to accept $737.72 as the balance.
Senator Odell's report- He is unavailable due to Sandy's health.
Update is given on Jim Lantz who had a stroke and also Tony Maiola who is at DHMC for several surgeries. We ( the committee) have sent a card.
House Report by Beverly- Contact Senator's on the marriage bill and also the taxes too. People gathered for a Rally for traditional marriage at 7:30 A.M. at the State house. The senate vote is uncertain on gay marriage. Many people are upset. The taxes include a 10% tax on gambling, this was communicated to some of the seniors in the area. There is an new capital gains tax. School building aid is gone. Ms. Reardon may give up her seat in Concord. Windham house seat election is April 28th (special election) also, a special election in Lebanon will occur on June 2nd with Randy Wagoner as the st. rep. Republican candidate. Area Chair Rob Kasper- There is a big push for the NH senate election district 3. We need this election to win. Please be involved in candidate recruitment. May 1st, the Cheshire county Lincoln Day Dinner fundraiser with Charlie Arlinghouse will be the main speaker as well as chairman of the Republican state party Governor Sununu. Republicans did offer an alternate budget but it was shot down. Democrats will budget first and tax later to cover increases. Good news, US Navy-1 and Somali Pirates-0. Saturday May 9th. is a strategy meeting at St. Anselm's. April 27th state committee meeting will occur.
Lincoln Day Diner report by Harry Gale for Don Gobin- Don Gobin is out of town with the Boston Marathon. The Dinner is May 22nd with key note speaker likely Judd Gregg. A fall event will be with hopefully Mike Huckabee under a tent on Newport Green. Dick Wentzell will help on this event. Grant Bosse is also working with Charlie Alinghouse with the Josiah Bartlett Group.
Chair Report by Harry Gale - Governor Sununu our chair will be here for our next meeting in Newport. Beverly adds in of Charlie Arlinghouse is a good speaker for a funraiser.
Issue of budget is started. Questions and Comments were discussed. Beverly would like a report on expenses for 2008. Rodd will work with Chris on this report. Rob Kasper sees this budget as "Aiming high" to win elections in this county. Tom Howard motions to pass this budget. Second is made by Steve Cunningham. Dave Roark notes that information was given to co-Secretary Margret Drye and when we spoke we didn't see the need to spend anywhere near the proposed budget (We know this is not a salary). Budget vote is 7-YES and 5-NO's to budget (by hand raised vote.)
Communications report by Steve Smith- The tea party's went well and one speaker was a Democrat and he stated "If we are all broke it doesn't matter what party we are." Many newcomers came out. There was about 900 people at the Concord tea party, Manchester and Plymouth were well attended well also. Harry thanks Steve and Adele.
Events Report by Harry- Harry notes of Wojek and Dennis absences.
Candidate Recruitment-Ernie Bridge from executive committee meeting funding was adjusted. This last cycle was a record for a complete Republican ballot. We at the executive committee meeting had discussions and communications outside of this groups current circle. We have a few candidates ready in any district if any openings occur. We need to send out a simple explanation of county commissioners seats and election cycles. Rob Kasper adds in some information to what Cheshire county is doing. Andrew Hemingway adds in to be able to target the youth and the future is through computer us strategies in many different ways.
Omer Ahern for report for Plymouth Tea Party- We needed a permit to use the public park. We had 300 people attend. We started at 3:30 and 297 people signed this petition to our NH congressional delegation. Omer reads a portion from a report from the federal government of homeland security noting many of us as "right wing extremists". Rodd Ward speaks that the report also says that they have declared veterans as right wing extremist. Rodd Ward also asked Andrew Hemmingway about his beliefs on veteran's issues.
Old business- Dick Wentzell gives us an update on his web site regarding the anti-sunsetting of l-chip a non-government group funded through state fees.
New Business- Beverly and Tom have been invited to a meeting on gambling expansions, "race-cinos" at Tom Raths office. She would like to receive feedback on this issue. April 26th Grafton county Lincoln Day Dinner.
Next Meeting is May 16th in Newport.
